Zeit für Brot is a growing bakery chain spread across Berlin and Germany that I’ve had the opportunity to work with on their flagship store in Prenzlauer Berg (Link), and their newest location at Rosenthaler Platz.
The goal was to create more of a bistro with this location. This new spot is faster moving, but still relaxing with one large corner to stop for a while, and with outdoor furniture creating an oasis from the city under the canopy of cherry trees.
In this location, the bakery area has more presence, and the highlight of the space is the rows of fresh bread shown on the wall of tilted bread shelves in a light birch wood.
As always, the aim was to differentiate from other Zeit für Brot shops and interpret the key elements of the bakery in a new way. The bread shelf, the counter, the seating corner and outdoor furniture are all unique, custom and handmade elements composed with a warm balance of materials.
It was important for us to not only create another functional bakers space but make details matter and draw the same attention to the design and craft as the company draws to the selection of ingredients.
I led the full process from architectural design through building execution.
